Who We Are

Volunteering at Shiloh Field Community Garden requires a smile and sometimes a shovel, but even the shovel is not mandatory. All equipment is provided, water is available, and education is always given. We grow food to feed hungry people and deliver the food to over 20 different food banks and kitchens in Denton County. We are a proud partner of Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Shiloh began in 2011 as a vision of Mr. Gene Gumfory. Almost 15 acres of land just south of Denton Bible Church was available and Mr. Gumfory knew there were plenty of folks who could use a hand and some nutritious food to make ends meet. Fast forward to 2024, and Shiloh has become a working farm of 100+ 4' X 25' raised beds. We grow various vegetables including tomatoes, potatoes, onions, peppers, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, squash, melons, eggplant, and other varietals with the seasons. We have two blackberry patches with Roseborough and Kiowa varieties and berries as big as your thumb! We also have chickens that last year produced 3000 dozen eggs! In 2023, we raised over 60,000 pounds of produce, all grown primarily organically, harvested, and delivered the same day within Denton County.

Volunteers are essential to the running of Shiloh.

Gardening clothes, sun protection, and closed-toe shoes recommended.

If the temperatures are below freezing, the garden will be closed. If it is raining, the garden may or may not be closed. Please check for instructions.

What We Do

Volunteers may begin arriving as early as 7:30 am and typically work 1 to 3 hours, depending on their schedules. But if you can only come for 15 minutes, come! Our harvest days are typically Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with maintenance days, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Park near the barn. We have a porta-potty on site, water, and all tools that you may need.
