The Tarrant Area Food Bank Community Garden Program is an initiative in which communities at risk of hunger and malnutrition are guided and inspired to grow their own produce. This program offers creative and simple solutions to improve access to nutritious food in our service area.
Families with Young Children are invited to help during this special workday in our Learning Garden at 3251 Sappington Place, Fort Worth, TX 76116.
This workday is designed for family teams of caregivers and children age 0-7.
All teams must include at least 1 adult for every 3 children. No prior experience is required - families should feel comfortable working in an outdoor garden setting. This volunteer experience will be designed for caregivers to work with their children in the garden.
It will include:
- 15 minute hands on tour
- 30 minute garden project
- 15 minute water break and garden story time (you are welcome to bring your own healthy snacks)

Please dress for the weather in layers of clothing that can get dirty. Wear close-toed shoes or boots. Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended.
Volunteer roles include but are not limited to:
- Weeding
- Watering
- Planting
- Harvesting

If your schedule changes and you are not able to attend this event, please un-register so someone else can sign up.
SAFETY PROCEDURES
Per CDC guidance, masks are no longer required in the garden, which is considered a non-crowded outdoor space. We encourage volunteers to continue self-screening for wellness, washing hands, and practicing good health hygiene at all times. Hand sanitizer, gloves and disposable face masks will still be available at workdays as an option for health and comfort for those who need or prefer them.
*Masks are still recommended when entering the building for bathroom access at our partner site.
Volunteers are Encouraged to Bring Their Own:
- Water
- Garden gloves
- Personal face mask (disposable or reusable cloth)
- Bandana or towel (for wetting and keeping cool)
TAFB will have garden gloves available for volunteers to use, if needed.
