The Tarrant Area Food Bank Community Garden Program is an initiative in which communities at risk of hunger and malnutrition are guided and inspired to grow their own produce. This program offers creative and simple solutions to improve access to nutritious food in our service area. No prior experience is required, however volunteers should feel comfortable lifting, bending, stooping and working in outside weather conditions. Please dress for the weather in layers of clothing that can get dirty. Wear close-toed shoes or boots. Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended. Please remember coats, hats and gloves in cold weather. If your schedule changes and you are not able to attend this event, please un-register so someone else can sign up. We have limited spaces available so we need all of our spaces filled by those who are able to attend. Volunteers are Encouraged to Bring Their Own Water. The following items are also helpful. Garden gloves Bandana or towel (wet for cooling on hot days) Snacks if neededTAFB will have extra garden gloves available for volunteers to use, if needed. SAFETY PROCEDURES We encourage volunteers to self-screen for wellness, wash hands, and practicing good health hygiene at all times. The Mission of the Ridglea Giving Garden is to cultivate a community gardening space to produce healthy food for our neighbors in need, regenerate Earth’s resources, and provide gardening education. Volunteers are vital to help us reach this mission! Location: · Dress appropriately for weather conditions in layered clothing that can get dirty, and close-toed shoes or boots; · Protect yourself from the sun with hats, clothing, sunshades, and sunscreen; · You are encouraged to bring your own water and garden gloves. Water and extra gloves will be provided if needed; · Volunteer roles include but are not limited to weeding, watering, planting, harvesting and composting. No previous experience is needed; · If you have a severe allergy to anything found in an outdoor environment, please bring needed prevention and response items; and · We encourage self-screening for wellness and practicing good health hygiene.
